Tattoos
before & after
What You Need to Know
BEFORE you come for your tattoo its a good idea to moisturise the area to be tattooed for a couple of weeks. The day before make sure you eat well, stay hydrated, avoid alcohol and asprin and try to get a good nights sleep. Finally tattoo day!.. eat a healthy meal, shower and choose clean, loose fitting comfortable clothing. Bring some snacks and a drink with you, long sessions can get boring so bring some entertainment, a book, headphones for you phone, or think of lots of interesting topics to chat to me about. It's normal to feel chilly getting a tattoo, sitting still for a long time doesn't help, make sure you're going to be warm enough. Its ok to bring sweets, a loved one, bed socks whatever you might need to stay comfortable.
What we will ask you to NOT bring is all your friends or kids, its hard to sit still when your distracted, and its hard for me to concentrate. Please allow plenty of time for your appt, sometimes we do run over.
AFTER your tattoo session is completed we will wrap your new tattoo with cling film and/or absorbent pad. This must be left on for 1 - 2 hours as it gives your tattoo time to starting the healing process in a clean environment.
After the recommended time give it a wash with lukewarm water and a mild soap, cleaning all plasma off. This may be sore but correct cleaning is very important and helps to limit scabbing during healing.
Always remember to pat your tattoo dry with a clean paper towel before putting your aftercare balm on. This is important to stop over hydration and sweating in the skin as this will lead to possible scab formation. Once fully dry apply a thin layer of YAYO aftercare, this available in the studio.
Repeat the cleaning and healing balm three times a day, but always remember to make sure your hands are clean before or you will encourage bacteria into the tattoo.
If you are suitable for YAYO guard this can stay on for up to 5 days. It’s normal for plasma to accumulate under the guard, this may look cloudy, dark & resemble a blister. That’s expected, do not burst it.
On day 4 or 5, with cool/body temp skin, gently peel a corner of the guard back. Remaining parallel to the skin surface gently stretch the guard away, do this slowly. Once removed wash the area & apply YAYO balm as described above.
If the guard is compromised at any point, ie, the edge rolls up exposing the tattoo or any plasma is able to leak out, the guard must be removed. The aftercare should then revert to the method outlined above.
Things you must avoid...
-
Baths, do not get in a bath with your new tattoo, they are full of bacteria and cause your tattoo to sweat and open up the wound. Low temp showers are recommended where possible. Do not dry with bath towel, pat dry with clean paper towel.
-
Swimming pool, saunas and spas, avoid these until your tattoo if fully healed, they’re filled with bacteria and will greatly increase your chances of infection.
-
Direct sunlight and sun beds are bad for tattoos in general always, wear sun block as it will fade the ink, especially during the healing process it will burn and can react to some ink pigments.
-
Cleaning products. Keep your ink away from cleaning products with chemicals in them like bleach, hair dyes etc.
-
Pets, although this is a harder one to avoid try not let you pets lick, walk over or jump up at your fresh tattoos, it will hurt and their claws and mouths are filled with dirt and bacteria which if it gets in your tattoo can cause infection.
-
Picking and scratching, this will damage your new tattoo, yes its going to get itchy, slap it don't scratch it!
Most tattoos will have slight scabbing during the healing process and this is normal and will flake off within a ten day period, but keep applying aftercare cream regularly as tattoos can sometimes take several weeks to heal properly.
Laser
The lowdown
Laser tattoo removal works by using focused pulses of light to shatter the ink particles into smaller fragments, which are then flushed put of the body by your immune system. This process takes multiple sessions depending on the tattoos age, ink used and how well the tattoo was applied. The session are spaced 6 - 8 weeks apart resulting in the tattoo fading a little over time from each session.
Darker tones like black and blue are easier to remove than lighter tones like yellows and greens. Amateur tattoos are also generally more responsive than newer professional tattoos. Skin tone is also a factor when removing a tattoo. A consultation including a test patch, is a must for every tattoo to be removed.
It does hurt to have a tattoo removed, just like getting a tattoo applied you will feel it but laser is much quicker!
You wont see results immediately, there will be an initial reaction from the laser which will subside after a few minutes. The fading of the tattoo happens very gradually over the weeks between sessions.
Yes, there will be aftercare to follow. Immediately after the laser session you may notice redness, swelling and possible pinpoint bleeding. after a few days you may notice fluid blisters on the skin, do not burst them as this can cause scaring, they will heal naturally over time. Like when getting a tattoo, you must keep the area clean, wash it 3 times per day, pat it dry and apply recommended YAYO laser serum.
Avoid tanning for 1-2 weeks before the laser session and 6 weeks after, invest in lots of spf50. Swimming while healing should also be avoided. Drink plenty of fluids it helps your body flush it all out, wear loose clothing in the treated area, you can apply a cold compress if the area is uncomfortable, but wrap your peas in a towel and clingfilm to ensure the lasered area stays as clean as possible.
Avoid the gym or strenuous activity for a few days after a laser session, once the area has healed and scabbed over exercise is good and helps to remove the ink.
